Rev. Dr. Sandra Hulse, Pastor

Rev. Sandy Hulse had a career on Wall Street before following a call to ordained ministry.  Sandy has served as an interim pastor at several UCC churches in New York, New Jersey and Northern California and as Pastor at United Church of Tallahassee (FL) UCC.  She received her M.Div. at Drew Theological School, Madison, N.J. and D. Min. at the University of Creation Spirituality, Oakland, CA.  Her Clinical Pastoral education was at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Payne-Whitney Psychiatric Center, Cornell University Medical Center, both in New York City.  She has served as chaplain at Tallahassee Medical Center and a volunteer chaplain at Morris County (N.J.) Domestic Violence Women’s Shelter.  Sandy is on the Board of Directorws of United Church Funds of the UCC and chairs the Corporate Responsibility Committee, which helps develop investment filters for socially responsible investments for the UCC.  Sandy values lively worship, vibrant community and active service.  Sandy and her partner, Karen Schneider, live in San Francisco and enjoy film, theatre, reading and walking San Francisco’s streets.  Sandy is involved in several interfaith organizations in San Francisco.

Aaron Pike, Music Director & Administrator

Music is a centrally important aspect of worship at St. John’s.   Composer Aaron Pike was raised in Caldwell, Idaho where he pursued music at a young age. His first major work, Omaha Beach, for wind ensemble and chorus, was premiered when he was 17. Since then he has had works performed at Rice University, The Brevard Music Center, UC Davis, San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Brigham Young University – Idaho as well as many other venues across the United States. He was a featured composer at the 2008 New Music Festival at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, the winner of the 2009 Marion Richter American Music Composition Award through the National Federation of Music Clubs, Finalist for the 2010 ASCAP Morton Gould Awards and winner of the 2010 Biannual Choral Composition Competition at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
