The UCC Coalition for LGBT Concerns invites you to attend a Coalition ONA Gathering in Oakland from Friday evening of June 4, 2014, and continuing through Sunday afternoon June 8, 2014. Spearheaded by Coalition Leadership Team members Yvette Flunder and Phil Porter, most of the event will take place at the new location of City of Refuge UCC (where Bishop Flunder is the founding pastor) near the Oakland Airport.
There will be a special pre-conference event taking place Friday during the day. (The topic will be announced later.) Coalition Executive Director Andy Lang will meet with area UCC LGBT leaders and friends on Thursday, June 5, at 7:00 pm at First Church Berkeley, where Phil Porter serves as Minister of Art and Communication.
The event will bring together people concerned about LGBT issues in church and society, including the LGBT community, the Fellowship of Affirming Ministry churches, Open and Affirming (ONA) church members, churches wishing to become ONA, and family friends, and allies. Come for worship, education, community building, and fun!
For more information and to register for this event, email Phil at firstname.lastname@example.org. Out-of-town participants are encouraged to come early or stay after to enjoy the delights of Oakland and San Francisco. Hotel accommodations are within walking distance of the City of Refuge, and easy public transportation is available. Both City of Refuge and First Church Berkeley are wheelchair-accessible.
Stay tuned for more details, but expect to be moved and inspired. If you would like to be involved with any aspect of the event, or have ideas for workshops, please let Phil know.
