Weddings and Commitment Ceremonies are an important part of our community ministry. Celebrating the love and commitment between two people is very important to us.
You do not need to be a member of St. John’s to hold your ceremony with us. St. John’s is part of the United Church of Christ and therefore part of the free-church tradition. We are not obliged to use any particular form for a ceremony, and we encourage couples to participate in creating a ceremony that will be most meaningful to them. Our sanctuary is suited to both traditional and more contemporary ceremonies.
Our minister is available to conduct your ceremony and to work with you in preparing for it. You may use your own officiant after speaking with one of our pastors.
We are an “Open and Affirming” church and welcome same-gender couples and couples from different religious backgrounds. Please know that you are welcome in our community both before and after your wedding. We believe that relationships prosper in a community of spiritual care and love.
Capacity: 150 maximum
Music: An Allen organ and a piano are available. We prefer that you use acoustic music, but we do permit recorded music, provided you supply your own equipment. Our Music Director can help you arrange for music for your wedding, or you may use your own soloists and instrumentalists.
Candles: Two candelabra (seven candles each) and two candlesticks are available for you.
Assembly Hall and Kitchen. Our kitchen and Assembly Hall are available for receptions.
Parking. Parking in the neighborhood is quite easy and available. For people using public transportation, we are located within a block of the Forest Hill MUNI station, which has connections with the K,L,M, and T MUNI Metro lines. The 36,43,44, and 52 bus lines also pass through Forest Hill Station. We are also easy to get to if someone is taking BART.
Fees: For pledging members of St. John’s there is no charge for the use of church facilities.
For non-members there is a fee for the sanctuary, which includes four hours on the day of the wedding and a one-hour rehearsal. All fees are due two weeks before the wedding. In addition to the base fee, there are additional options based on what services you want for your wedding.
– Use of the Assembly Hall and Kitchen for your reception.
– The Minister’s fee will be discussed when you meet with her.
– The Church’s Organist/Pianist to play at the wedding and for him to attend the rehearsal. Services of other professional musicians are also available.
